What we Believe

The center of our faith is this: Jesus Christ crucified for the forgiveness of sin! Or as St. Paul says, “God demonstrated his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). The good news of God’s love shapes everything we do at Mission Lutheran.

The Story of God’s Love

At the very heart of our faith is the one true God—a God who is not distant or cold, but a perfect community of love: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. From the very beginning, God created us to know that love, to walk with Him, and to live in the joy of His presence.

But humanity chose another path. Our rebellion created a gap between us and God—a gap we could never cross on our own. Out of relentless love, God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, into the world. Jesus stepped into our story, lived the life we could not, and offered Himself on the cross to pay the debt we could never repay. And then—He rose again, breaking the chains of sin and death, opening the way for all who believe.

Through faith, a gift that God Himself gives and strengthens in us, we are united with Christ. This faith is nurtured by God’s Word and through the sacraments—Holy Baptism and Holy Communion—tangible signs of His promise and presence. We trust the Bible as God’s true and reliable Word, given to guide us, shape us, and point us back to His heart.

Because we have been rescued and claimed by God, our lives are transformed. His love redefines who we are and how we live. It draws us into worship, moves us to serve others, and calls us into community.  Together, we encourage one another, carry one another’s burdens, and remind each other of the hope we share. And that hope is sure: we look forward with confidence to the day when Christ will return, when all things will be made new, and when God’s story of love will be complete—a story that will never end.

Our Doctrinal Foundation

We believe, teach, and preach the Christian faith as it has been handed down from Jesus and his apostles and disciples. We believe in the Triune God and affirm the historic creeds of the church: the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. We believe Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through His life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation. We believe the Gospel is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.

We accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the Word of God and the authoritative and reliable source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life. Through them, God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world. We subscribe to the historical writings of the Lutheran Reformation (often called the “Book of Concord” or “Lutheran Confessions”) that help to keep us clearly Jesus-centered and Biblically faithful.
